The Batsuit is designed to give the impression of a frightening bat-like creature representing vigilance against crime.
First version[]
Batman Begins details extensively how the Batsuit is put together. The body armour is a Nomax survival suit made of a tri-tip weave. It was initially commissioned as body armour for soldiers, but the production cost of $300,000 a piece dissuaded the army from mass production, so the prototype was abandoned. It is capable of protecting from knives and most gunfire.
Second version[]
The second version of the suit is lighter, which allows faster movement, but doesn't offer as durable armour.
